Net Sarees - The Transparent Charms

May 8th, 2008 by UTSAV

Nine yards of sheer net isn’t exactly an innovation. But ever since Bollywood actresses are spotted wearing them it has again in vogue and became the drape of the season. Especially, the youngsters seem to be fascinated by this beautiful sheer fabric. Net sarees are loved by all for their transparent charms. But there are few things you should remember before you step out in one for yourself.

The Fabric:  Net is a sheer and flouncy fabric. If you are thin, then net saree is a best suited outfit for you. The good thing about this fabric is that it can be dyed in any color so you as a wearer have a wide variety of shades to choose from. Net makes any kind of embroidery look more ornate. Every fabric has a best feature; this transparent beauty is appreciated for its color and embroidery on it.

The Petticoat: The petticoat can make or shatter your look when you are in a net saree. Since, this saree is almost transparent you have to pay extra attention to what you wear underneath. Satin and brocade are the best preferences if you want a dressy look. Lycra is also a good pick as it hugs the curves of the body, which makes the net drape look ever so sexy. You could wear a heavily embroidered petticoat under a sparsely sequined net saree. Shaded petticoat will look awesome if the saree has embellishments.

The Blouse: It is best to coordinate the fabrics of the petticoat and blouse. It gives a clean look and you don’t have to stress about what fabric to buy for your blouse. It’s nice to match a western concept like the corset or the bustiers with a net saree.  Even you could go for an off-shoulder corset or a blouse held up with thick straps on the shoulders. The style entirely depends on what you are contented with.

The Jewelry: Heavy earrings and chunky bracelets or set of thick bangles are the best options. Long dangle earrings that come down to the shoulders are a good bet. As net sarees are usually embroidered so it’s better to avoid neckpieces.

Tips on how to choose and care your pearl jewelry

April 19th, 2008 by UTSAV

Since ancient times, the pearl has been a symbol of unblemished perfection. It is the oldest known gem and from centuries considered the most valuable. The latin word for pearl literally means ‘unique’, attesting to the fact that no two pearls are identical. Pearls have been considered ideal wedding gifts because these symbolize purity and innocence. In the hindu religion, the presentation of an undrilled pearl and its piercing has formed part of the marriage ceremony. Pearl armlets, pearl pendants, pearl necklaces, pearl rings, pearl bracelets, chains with pearls are quite popular.

Black, white, cream , peach, big, small, medium, tiny–pearls, the creation of an oyster, a mystical piece of adornment that has over the years been associated with sophistication. Within pearls there are a plethora of options each suited for different type of personality. Pearls are categorized as Natural pearls, cultured pearls and imitation or simulated pearls. The size of pearl too matter in adding to its value. Size contributes to the price of the pearl. The shape of a pearl determines the value too. The more symmetrical the shape, the more valuable will be the pearl. Pearls come in numerous shapes like round, pear, tear, oval, etc. Pearls of irregular size and shapes are termed as Baroque.

Tips on how to choose the right pearls for yourself:

When choosing pearls look for the luster in the pearl. The color tones should be clear, not dull or muddy.

The pearls should be without crakes, chips or disfiguring blemishes.

When strung, the pearls should blend well together, particularly in regard to orientation and color.

Caring tips for your Pearl jewelry [Do’s and Don’ts]:

- Don’t toss them carelessly into a purse or jewel box where they can get scratched against hard metal edge or harder stones like a diamond ring.

- Don’t expose them to acid based hair sprays, cosmetics or perfumes.

- Don’t clean them with chemicals or abrasives.

- Do treat pearls gently. Place them in chamois bag or wrap them in tissue when putting them away.

- Do put on pearls only after applying cosmetics, hair sprays and perfumes. So that they do not come in direct contact with them.

- Do wash pearls only with mild soap and water after taking them off. This will remove all trace of perfume cosmetics or hair spray from the pearls.

- Do bring your pearls back to a jeweler for re-stringing once a year as ordinary wear weakens and stretches the nylon threads on which the pearls are strung. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

Useful Tips on wearing right earrings

April 19th, 2008 by UTSAV

Since time immortal women have been in love with jewelry. So much so that if a piece of jewelry is made or brought for them every month they still want more.  It is just one of those things for which there is no logical explanation or reason. While there are women who have no inclination for such objects of desire, the number is less that they end up being exceptions and not the rule. There are certain pieces of jewelry that are having more attention and for most of us, it has been earrings. Earrings are available in different shapes and designs. Simple earrings look good with heavy complex necklaces. It is sometimes overdone if both earrings and necklace are extravagant. Larger chandelier earrings can be worn alone without a necklace or possibly with a simple necklace. Everything in fashion doesn’t mean will suit you.

Here are some tips for choosing earrings that would look the best with your hairstyle

Tips for long hairs worn in an undo: It’s the most versatile hairstyle and all earrings go well with it.

Tips for long hairs worn down: Bold chandelier earrings or long earrings go well with this hairstyle.

Tips for short hairs: If you are having short hairs, choose short and dainty earrings.

Another important thing which should be considered in choosing right earring is facial shape / face cut. Here are some tips for finding the right earrings for your face cut:

Tips for oval face: If your face is this shape, count your blessings! With an oval shape you can choose virtually any style earrings.

Tips for long face: Short earrings are the most flattering for this facial type. Long dangling earrings tend to make the face look even longer.

Tips for round face: Long, slender earrings are a great choice for the round face as they help to elongate the look of the face.

Tips for Heart face: For the heart face we recommend triangular chandelier earrings. The wide base of the triangle earring provides an excellent contrast to the narrower chin

Tips for Square face: Round earrings or hoop earrings look fabulous on those with a square face.

Thus it’s very important to follow some guidelines before following the present trends as they can make or break your personality.

The Special Wedding Look Planner

April 15th, 2008 by UTSAV

The battlefield is the venue of the wedding and the contenders are the invitees. Each dressed in their best to prove their supremacy. In this ambience, for the bride to appear as ‘the one’ is indeed a very difficult task. Hence, she needs a careful strategic planning for the D-day.

The day which she has waited forever has come. From the fabric that goes into the exquisite ensemble for her perfectly worked out body to each jewel complementing her delicate collarbone, her hairstyle and her makeup, everything must be the finest. We offer you few guidelines for all occasions that can help you make your dreams come true.

The Pooja:

The look should be “Simple”. Long flowing frock suits or Anarkali Suits in rich materials like pure crepes and georgettes, or patialas worn with short kurtas would be perfect. These outfits will be more comfortable to sit cross-legged, apart from giving a lot of body to the garment. Whatever be the outfit, heavy embroidered odhnis with them are the must haves for the bride-to-be as she has to cover her head during the Pooja.

The hues should be one of the ‘ultra bright’ like vermilions, fuchsias and burnt oranges. These colors suit almost everybody if accessorized well and with the right makeup. Soft warm pinks and peaches-depending upon the skin tone off the ‘bride-to-be’ would show off the radiance and keep the look simple. Hair left open or loosely tied are the best. The jewellery worn must be more yellow gold, as it is considered auspicious. Evergreen stones like rubies, emeralds and diamonds would be a more proper choice. Let the jewellery be minimal and delicate, with flashy earrings and bangles. Foot wear should be low-heeled.

The Groom should opt for minimally embroidered or a pin-tucked kurta worn with open sandals. Shades like ivory and earthy ones will look nice especially when the bride is in bright shades. A kum kum tilak on the forehead completes the picture.

The Sagan/Engagement:

For this traditional occasion, keep your look a bit conventional. A fish kali lehenga is one such ‘ultra-feminine’ ensemble. It should be worn with stylized choli and structured dupattas. The other reigning attire this season is intricately embroidered suits. These are basically with long kameez and churidars. The highlight is the different type of embroidery which will cover the fabric completely or densely embroidered. As far as the colors are concerned, it is for you to decide which two parallel stories will run simultaneously. Pick colors from the ultra-bright family. Fresh colors like leaf green, Indian pinks, chromes and saffrons. The color story should be taken further to the makeup as well which should bring lot of color to your face. It is necessary to understand that makeup depends on the person.

Create your own unique combination and leave him guessing. Your hair needs to contribute in creating an aura of sensitive femininity. Avoid severe styles for this function at least. The look should make the person come alive and bring out the best aspects of your personality.

For our groom-to-be Chikan kurtas with sequins in deeper tones coordinated with mojris are a nice option.

The Cocktail:

The mood is FUN so has the attire got to be. Be unusual, be daring and go for fusion styles. The season’s tone is deep shades: Montana, a shade which echoes all the blues and greens of a peacock’s plumage, or a somber coca-cola, again reflecting a million browns in its depth or all brighter tones like neon yellows and saffrons.

The silhouette needs to be carefully chosen, it needs to allow enough freedom of movement so as to enable easy dancing. Clothing with a western element goes well with Italian jewellery. Rubies with ivory, emeralds with fuchsia, pearls with coke, tanzanite with black and so on. The makeup should add a touch of mystery to your face. After all, we need to make the other ‘million’ hearts realize their loss! Your footwear must be comfortable and coordinated since it is going to be much more visible compared to other functions.

The metrosexual man of today needs to look stylish debonair. Being one of the bigger functions where you dress yourself in a western look, the opportunity must be exploited to the maximum. Classic suits with boring colors with striking ties are in.

The Wedding:

The time has come to transform your dreams into reality. You want to be royal, magnificent in the grandeur that only something traditional can provide. A properly styled circular or umbrella lehenga, a well-boned choli that fit you like a glove to accentuate your vital statistics combined with a heavy odhni with a broad matha patti.

Every community has its own kind of likings for jewellery. Marwaris love jadau while Gujratis prefer rose-cut diamonds. Punjabis, Sindhis and South Indians go for gold and diamonds, Maharashtrians choose only gold and Christians like delicate diamond jewellery.

Tip for jewellery: Long earrings and necklaces add height whereas huslis or close to neck necklaces cut height.

Hairstyles are restricted to styles which give you height and help balance the heavy embroidered dupatta covering your hair. Your footwear should be easy to slip on and off to avoid any struggle before sitting for the pheras and your look for the evening is complete.

A beige or fawn sherwani exquisitely embroidered with the saffa and pagdi. The saffa and pagdi must be color coordinated with your outfit. If at all any jewellery is required, a kundun brooch in the centre of the pagdi adds the nice touch.

Go for different looks: Do keep a check on what suits you most and what not. Try those delicate dresses and become a red carpet diva. Wear a red carpet outfit with focus on the midriff and the waist. Graphic patterns, bold colors, shiny, glossy and playful cuts are going to work wonders.

Make-ups and Hairdos:  You can’t think of a Goddess with overdone makeup on her skin, dark circles, and unstructured hair. For the Goddess look, define the eyes with a liner and mascara to give a complete look. Profoundly done eyes with eye shadow and the shimmer effect are in trend these days. For your lips, bare look works great with the neutral shades like caramels, pinks, and soft lilacs. The nude look is apposite. Pulled back ponytails are very much in, in the hairdos. Short layered haircut looks smashing too.

Dazzle with Jewels: Correct accessories are very important, so don’t forget to accessorize. Go funky with hippy or jumbo bags this season. Compliment your goddess look with wedge heels, sleek bracelets and cute earrings. The hot most color is white this season, so go for white metals and pearls. A bit of tribal influence is seen in the jewelry to give a distinct look.

Get an attitude: Let your looks match your body language. Don’t sit with your arms crossed, you can cross your legs this shows etiquettes. Look into the eyes of the person while talking. To show that you are interested in the conversation don’t sit or stand stiff, slightly bend forward. Don’t laugh loud just have an open smile which shows a bit of your teeth. To give your walk a confident look, slightly suck your stomach in, it even shows you taller. Always try to talk of things in general like fashion, weather or something that’s common between. Jewelry : Antique jewelry goes well with the outfit. To keep with the earthly red tones, invest in antique copper plated pieces or weathered bronzes or gold finish to give off the definitive look.

-To remove tough turmeric stains rub a lemon on the stain. Thereafter, apply milk on the stain and wash with any detergent.

- A solution named ‘carbona’ available in the market can be used, as it removes stains easily or a small amount of bleaching powder when rubbed on a stain and left for 15 minutes and washed in cold water will help to remove it.

- You can also apply glycerin to the spill and let it sit for 30 to 60 minutes. Blot it with paper towels, removing all turmeric you can. Wash with a detergent.

- Apply hydrogen peroxide (drug store) variety to the stain and allow it to bleach the yellow color out. Then wash as usual.

- An effective remedy to remove stain is to apply detergent solution and blot. Apply vinegar solution and blot. Apply enzyme detergent and blot. If the stain still remains, use of a rust remover (oxalic acid solution) or bleaching may be necessary.

- Rubbing a lemon wedge on the area and leaving it to dry in direct sunlight will also be of good help.

- Make a paste of water and soap and rub it on both sides of the stained cloth. When dry pour hot water on it from a height of about 2 meters to see the turmeric stain vanish.

- Last but not the least apart from your favorite dress if you have stained your carpet with turmeric use 2 drops of sprite (soda) on the affected area and rub gently with a wet paper towel to see the stain removed. Go ahead and try these tips. Hope they will be of good use.
