In earlier times, women’s dress cut like a smock, with a high neckline, and a yoke, similar to children’s, infants’ and dolls’ dresses with collars, cuffs, and wide belts, some with full skirts, wrapped draped bodice and long sleeves were known as baby doll dresses. African Dress: Straight cut or A-line dress made of African printed cotton fabrics, elaborately trimmed with wooden beads, glass beads or sequins. Designed in mini and full length styles, some with midriffs and others with see-through midriffs.
African clothing, are traditional garments worn by the native people of the continent, in some occasions these traditional costumes have been replaced by western clothing. In Northeast Africa, particularly in Egypt , styles of traditional costumes have been influenced by near culture, basically eastern. The Northwest Africans in contrast, were less influenced by foreign rudiments and remain more in antiquity. The Jellāba (worn in Northwest Africa) shares similar properties with both the Boubou and the Dashiki, although it is less stylized than the Dashiki. In Sahelian Africa, the Dashiki and Boubou are worn more prominently, though not exclusively; the Dashiki is highly stylized and is rendered with a flamboyant V-shaped collar. In contrast the Boubou is simpler, even more so than the Jellāba, though the color designs reach impressive proportions, especially among the Tuareg, who are known for their beautifully dyed indigo robes.
Wearing white loose-fitting clothing is generally recommended in the continent as it is comfortable and because the color white doesn’t absorb heat.
For our African customers we have long floor-length dashikis, tunics and robes, two pieces, three-piece, 4-piece traditional African outfits. Buba (blouse) and Iro (wrapper) with lace fabric, Gele (head-gear) and Ipele (shawl) made of hand-loomed fabrics in amazingly bright shades of cotton recreating the vibrancy of the fabrics in beautiful Indian prints and patterns. Accents of gold metallic thread and sequins add to the shimmering effect.

A top worn by women or girls, that ties behind the neck instead of straps over each shoulder and across the back, leaving the arms, shoulders, and back bare. Halter neck garments are generally considered more sexy because they leave the back free, exposing the shoulder blades. The halter top has a shirred look with gathering at the waist, which flatters slim figures, and helps to balance the proportions of pear-shaped figures. The term “halter” comes from the German word for “holder,” which literally means “busts-holder” and now days it’s very much common with the young college girls. It’s basically, a summer wear and its stitched in flowy fabrics like crepes, georgettes, and chiffons. It can be worn with anything like skirts, capris, drawstring pants, denims etc.
All salwar kameez fabrics available on our website can be customized into halter tops. Please send us a query for more information.
